Description :
Exemestane is oral antiestrogen, an aromatase inhibitor. It works by stopping the production of estrogen, which may decrease the size and growth of the tumor.Exemestane is used to treat early breast cancer in women who have experienced menopause.
Exemestane is used in postmenopausal women who have already been treated with tamoxifen citrate. Exemestane is also being studied in the treatment of other types of cancer.
Application:
Exemestane is used to treat early breast cancer in women who have experienced menopause ('change of life'; end of monthly menstrual periods) and who have already been treated with a medication called tamoxifen (Nolvadex) for 2 to 3 years. This medication is also used to treat breast cancer in women whose breast cancer has worsened while they were taking tamoxifen. Exemestane is in a class of medications called aromatase inhibitors. It works by decreasing the amount of estrogen produced by the body. This can slow or stop the growth of some breast tumors that need estrogen to grow.
Aromasin is used to fight breast cancer and raise testosterone in the body. Exemestane acetate blocks the process of aromatisation. So it lowers the amount of oestrogen in the body. In early breast cancer, taking exemestane acetate can help to stop breast cancer coming back. In advanced breast cancer the cancer cells may grow more slowly or stop growing completely.
